Clay Goodman Returns with Acoustic Jewel ‘Listen To The Rain’

‘Listen To The Rain’ sees Clay Goodman at his most tender and reflective, a homecoming to his singer-songwriting roots. All without losing kinetic momentum and wholesome allure.

The keen reader might recall Virginia-based singer-songwriter Clay Goodman from a feature we published in December 2025, praising ‘Heartbreak (The One That You Need)’ as “indulging in catchy melodies and fuzzy guitars”. If that was Goodman at his fiercest and noisier, ‘Listen To The Rain’ instead sees the American troubadour at his most tender and reflective, a homecoming to his singer-songwriting roots. All without losing kinetic momentum and wholesome allure.

You see, ‘Listen To The Rain’ weaves a fictional thread between indie, pop, and rock, eventually transforming itself into a cohesive acoustic offering, one that greatly benefits from Goodman’s nostalgic, personal storytelling and clean guitar strumming. Sometimes, it pays to get back to basics, as ‘Listen To The Rain’ masterfully illustrates.

Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the record, Goodman explains: “My sound has always sat somewhere between emotional indie folk, power-pop, dreampop and really catchy and melodic pop songs. I think this song encapsulates all of that. The energy of the rocking songs, the emotions of a song like ‘Hello’, heartfelt vocals and melodies that work their way in your ears.” It’s perhaps worth taking a step back and looking at how far Clay Goodman has come since his debut. He should be proud of that.
