Crowning a crucial comeback year, ‘Midnight Witch’ marks Vancouver-based creative Clare Twiddy‘s latest album, a purposeful, relatable effort that initiates a new artistic era for the project. An eclectic, cross-genre record, the LP showcases all of the high-level musicianship Twiddy has to offer, with her vocals being front and centre thanks to their malleable, luscious tone and charismatic resolve.
‘Midnight Witch’ is packed with tons of personal significance for the Canadian songstress. Written after an intense eight years of continuous performances with her previous band, the album sees Twiddy at her most honest and vulnerable, slowly trying to get her life under control and navigate a particularly disorienting period. In that sense, every song in ‘Midnight Witch’ provides an emotional anchor, a way to slowly reclaim a bold sense of self.
Delving deeper into the introspective ethos that propels the album, Twiddy explains: “‘Midnight Witch’ is about learning to hold both your darkness and your light. Even in the heaviest moments, there is always hope. Every ending has the seed of a new beginning within it. I think it’s magical to use art as a way to transform pain into something beautiful.” We appreciate the uplifting, empowering message that hides behind the song. We are confident it will connect with a large audience out there.
