Introducing itself as an euphoric mirage, ‘Angels’ is incredibly immersive and luscious, delivering a great deal of aural intensity and lyrical sultriness. Marking Chloé French’s debut single, the record moves with classy charisma and international allure, sparking a musical journey that’s drenched in attraction and glamour, one that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. Part of an upcoming EP – ‘NY Tapes’ – ‘Angels’ is instrumental in communicating the foundational blocks of Chloé French’s artistry.
Growing up between Geneva, Paris and Berlin, French now calls New York City her home. Such an international outlook is one of the reasons that make Chloè French such a unique creative figure. Borrowing from chanson française as much as she does from the Berlin club scene, Chloé is able to build an aural universe that’s highly inspired by the European scene (especially 60s aesthetic), yet also boasting heightened global pop potential.
Delving deeper into the lyricism behind ‘Angels’, French explains: “It reflects on the feeling of wanting something so badly, you’ve lost all reasons why – and that itself feels like a strange kind of jealousy… for something you’re still unaware of.” It’s relatable, yet open-ended enough to entice a vast audience. French language lyrics are the cherry on the cake, adding to the single’s already prominent elegance.
