Chilled Savage Returns with Evocative Effort ‘Bakersfield’

Chilled Savage might indeed be chilled, yet he takes his musical output rather seriously, as the project’s latest single, ‘Bakersfield’, gracefully showcases. A wholesome and evocative alt-country/pop anthem, the record takes us all into the American troubadour’s flawless songwriting and nuanced guitar skills, crafting a heartwarming, catchy gem that’s a joy to listen to. The keen reader might remember Chilled Savage by a review we published last year for ‘Maybe Girl’; since then, a firm and committed trajectory seems to emerge.

Known by day as Eugene Savage, the Harrisburg, PA-based creative seems to be travelling full steam towards a tour later this year, all while unveiling a series of meaningful and dynamic singles. Eugene’s vocals are to die for, with an earthy, resonant voice that’s equally at home in old-school country territories as it is in modern pop goodness. ‘Bakersfield’ is the strongest evidence of that, with emotional lyricism steeped in nostalgia and introspection. The listening experience is rewarding and deep, truly transporting us into Savage’s eclectic artistic universe.

Speaking about the single, Chilled Savage explains: “‘Bakersfield’ is a pop song with some country elements. It is a song that main me use restraint as a songwriter because often I try to naturally make things formulaic, but with this song I went where the song took me.”
