Charlie and the Moonshine Gear Up for Upcoming Album with ‘El Diablo’

Charlie and the Moonshine share a timely response to Valentine’s Day, an unconventional counter single with a great deal of brooding allure.

Although the ever-feared Valentine’s Day is now behind us, we would like to share a thought for the sheer number of releases that came out on that very same date, seeking to draw attention to themselves thanks to their association with love-related theming. Most of them were either about breakups or independence, and most of them leaned on the pop genre. You’ll understand our surprise, then, when we came across a Mexican band making Americana-infused material, writing a song about February 13th in a truly unique and imaginative style. ‘El Diablo’ is exactly that.

Penned by Charlie and the Moonshine, ‘El Diablo’ feels incredibly striking and hypnotic, a blend of Americana allure and blues-like broodiness that’s as evocative as it is energetic. Guitars are roaring, drums are hard-hitting, and the group’s vocals capture all of the dramatic flair of the song’s imaginary storyline. What more could you wish for? From a sonic standpoint, there’s a certain nostalgia in it all, with the piece carrying a heightened retro character.

Delving deeper into the piece, the group explains: “‘El Diablo’ is a dark, sensual love story about the Devil falling in love with a powerful woman, a forbidden romance told from the other side of desire and damnation. At its core, the song is also a tribute to feminine power, the idea that even a figure like the Devil can be undone by a woman’s strength and presence.” Charlie and the Moonshine are now gearing up for a debut album, recorded live in a legendary 1970s counterculture location, Avándaro.
