Charles Edison Drops Meaningful Hip-Hop Record ‘June in February’

A wholesome and hard-hitting hip-hop record, ‘June in February’ is an absolute treasure trove of sonic goodness. Drawing inspiration from old-school rap influences and boom-bap productions, the album is groovy and striking, yet maintains a gentle character, with bright, acute drum samples and smooth melodic textures creating the perfect mellow landscape for British creative Charles Edison

Featuring eight wonderful slices of nostalgic extravaganza, ‘June in February’ particularly flourishes over Edison’s fiery lyricism and potent vocal delivery, exploring tales of personal reckoning, loss and resilience. Inspired by a variety of factors, the record was mainly written during the winter months, which contrasts deeply with its uplifting and hazy vibe. Embracing a more hopeful outlook – at least compared to previous releases – Edison looks to the future with positivity and charisma, penning what can be considered the last piece of an unofficial trilogy of albums in the British creative’s catalogue.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘June in February’, Charles explains: “I wrote it and produced it in late 2024 and early 2,025 when the British weather is at its coldest, darkest and bleakest. The music I was making was instead warm, bright and positive. It’s also dedicated to my grandmother Florence, whom I lost to an aggressive brain tumour in February of 2016.”
