A luscious slice of evocative, meaningful contemporary pop, ‘Pulse’ serves as Chloe Sofia’s debut effort. Hailing from Canada, the talented young songstress has truly impressed us with her elegant vocals and relatable lyrical delivery. With nothing to envy to bigger, more established acts, it is clear that Sofia is gearing up for a stunning career. Especially if ‘Pulse’ is anything to go by.
Teaming up with fellow Toronto-based producer Roy Hamilton III, Chloe kickstarted a collaboration that’s obviously working well. Wrapped in gentle and organic pop tones, ‘Pulse’ takes a rather hypnotising approach, with a sonic push-and-pull oscillating between sharp guitar tones, polite drums and angelic harmonies. Sofia’s meaningful and nuanced vocal tone is on full display here, commanding the listeners’ attention with charisma and control. Taylor Swift is quoted by Chloe as one of her biggest influences.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song – resembling a comic book’s storyline – the Canadian talent explains: “The storyline followed this guy, who’s actually a robot, that dates a lot of girls and tries to take their organs in order to replace his own mechanical parts. The song concentrates a lot on the concept of ‘inner beauty’, because it talks about how this guy is so pretty on the outside but very hollow & heartless within.”
