Brendan Pegg Returns with Expressive Cut ‘In The Dark’

The keen reader might recall Brendan Pegg from a feature we published earlier this summer. Celebrating ‘I Can Tell’ as “a poignant jewel exploring the heartbreaking distance between two lovers”, it was clear that the Los Angeles-based troubadour championed a highly evocative and meaningful ethos, often reflecting on human nature and romantic theming. Now back with his latest effort, ‘In The Dark’, Pegg confirms his cathartic quality, sharing a charming quasi-acoustic piece drenched in vulnerability and lyrical honesty.

Showcasing how a good song doesn’t necessarily need a busy production, Brendan delivers his stunning jagged vocals and relatable songwriting over a heartwarming acoustic guitar. Blending minimalism with deep and reflective imagery, Pegg lets us believe that this might actually be an acoustic endeavour. Instead, just as ‘In The Dark’ nears its ending, the record jumps with both feet into alt-rock territories, a reminder that the American creative doesn’t restrict himself when it comes to artistic expression.

This makes for an anthemic and expansive outro, one that’s still packed with melancholia and resonant motifs. As Pegg eloquently explains: “At its core, ‘In The Dark’ is about searching for clarity in moments of uncertainty, whether in love, life, or self-reflection.” A trend is starting to emerge, and that trend is called authenticity. Brendan seems willing to release music for everyone, music that connects with a wide audience.
