The keen reader might recall Parisian musical outfit Books of Moods. Featuring ‘Slow Day’ earlier this year, we proudly celebrated it as “embracing its laid-back, relaxing lyrical message, empowering listeners to have a guilt-free day and take it easy”. Well, that seems to have become a permanent mark for the Hugo Sailer-driven project, as they gleefully return with another slow-paced jewel, ‘Holidays’. The listening experience is once again nuanced and rather soothing, quite summery, too.
Aptly titled, the song “perfectly captures the chaotic magic of summer adventures”, as Books of Moods eloquently explains. Such an ethos is fully realised in a song that’s part dreamy, part nostalgic, and slightly psychedelic. Yet, it’s also polite and elegant, fully delving into its art-rock denomination. Wholesome and authentic, Sailer’s vocals deliver a relatable and immediate stream of songwriting goodness, letting listeners gradually identify with his simple first-person storytelling.
A pattern is starting to emerge, featuring Books of Moods and their love for easygoing, breezy material. The overall character is calming and serene, sparking introspective reflections and heartwarming daydreams. Just like we did… Look out for more to come, Hugo Sailer is not done just yet.
