Blackfox Drop Eclectic, Wholesome Album ‘Blackfox4’

It would be easy to simply dismiss ‘Blackfox4’ as an eclectic album. In reality, it’s a striking display of everything the project stands for. Formed in Atlanta by a group of talented and experienced musicians and songwriters, Blackfox draws from an incredibly diverse palette of influences, a direct result of the group’s decades-long commitment to the music medium. That’s why listeners might find traces of ’60s lenient jangly guitars and power-pop prowess, alongside ’80s glam elements and modern alt-rock fury.

When listing their influences, Blackfox are also adamant about the Southern California and Georgia rock and pop ethos from the 60s and 70s, a feature that well fits the group’s home base, Atlanta. Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, the band explains: “This release started coming together right after COVID and toward the end of completing our last release, ‘Embers’. And while that didn’t directly affect the song’s content, we were certainly dealing with the after-effects of isolation and reunification during its making.”

Guided by three lead singers – Stacey Cargal, also the main songwriter, Monica Arrington, and Andy Gish – ‘Blackfox4’ develops with a familiar character, and it’s not so much that it surprises the listeners, it’s more that it gifts them a heartwarming and nostalgic experience, a wholesome dive into four decades of American music history.
