Benedict October Gears Up for Second Album with Soulful Single ‘Lust For Life’

Amsterdam-based singer/songwriter and wordsmith Benedict October recently put out a tune called ‘Lust For Life’, and it’s a grand and powerful piece of music that I’ve fallen deeply in love with. A soulful and dramatic little number, it’s the crooning vocals of the artist himself that immediately captured my attention. Part Matt Berninger, part Nick Cave, Benedict October (real name Martijn Smits) brings with him an undeniable magnetism and allure that draws you straight into his sonic world.

Not one to shy away from getting profoundly honest in his work, Martijn reflects on ‘Lust For Life’ as being “a post covid, losing your father, falling in and out of love, depressed love song that celebrates life. It’s an encouragement to live and love life to the fullest in any way you can. With endless drama, dancing, wine, love, sorrow, sex, drugs, luck, pain, and beauty”.

Featuring on Benedict October’s forthcoming album ‘And then the ocean’, ‘Lust For Life’ offers a first glimpse into what I believe will be a multifaceted exploration of the human experience in all of its complexities. The record will also come with its own short film (obviously!) titled ‘Yesterday is a dream’, a sixteen-minute tragedy with the album as its soundtrack. We simply cannot wait!
