Ben Aubergine Returns with Evocative Song ‘Farewell’

The listening experience behind ‘Farewell’ is surprisingly tender and emotional, a slice of gentle acoustic tones and orchestral elegance served on a silver platter by American troubadour and musician Ben Aubergine. Operating out of Chicago, the talented creative champions a rather eclectic personality, shifting from opera-influenced rock exploration to mellower, pop-leaning material at a moment’s notice. Active since the late ‘90s, Aubergine is certainly not done yet.

‘Farewell’ is the perfect evidence of that: originally composed in 1996 for acoustic guitar and cello, the record has now found a more modern and relatable livery, framing Ben’s luscious and detailed vocals into heartwarming acoustic flair and folk-like reverence. Self-produced, the song is a bit of a triumph for Aubergine, here showcasing all the artistic prowess he has to offer.

From a lyrical standpoint, ‘Farewell’ explores romantic introspection with evocative restraint. Moving with unconventional clarity and deep vulnerability. As we are told: “It diverges from standard breakup narratives by examining the mechanics of relational fatigue and the precise moment when separation transforms from loss into liberation. This minimalist structural approach directly supports the song’s thematic clarity, documenting the breakdown of a stagnant partnership and the relief that accompanies final departure.”
