Valianti’s evocative and nuanced vocals are a joy to listen to, jumping from intimate, introspective sections to anthemic, carefree choruses. There’s also a strong sense of authenticity, as Ava is singing about her own experiences.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Distant’, the American songstress explains: “‘Distant’ is about the silent sadness that comes with losing someone without a fight – just life pulling you apart. I wrote it when I realized that sometimes, no matter how much you care, people drift away. It’s one of the hardest parts of growing up, but also one of the most real.” Well, Ava, life changes constantly – as you’ll come to realise – but holding a fragment of it in a song is a great cathartic tool to move past it.
