Mind you, this is a unique record, stemming from an even more unique artistic journey. The collaborative effort between Arman Ray and Hyon Gak Sunim, ‘The Formless Track’ was a transformative album released earlier this year, focused on the Zen teaching of master Sunim. Delivered in the form of spoken words, those deep and introspective poems were given a musical counterpoint by British musician Arman Ray, creating a celebrative and inspiring record that ended up being more than the sum of its parts. The goal was to enlighten listeners worldwide, a goal that we are confident the pair has achieved.
Now, Arman Ray seeks to widen the narrative, unveiling a brand new EP containing remixes of those very same tracks in a more dance, club-oriented style. ‘The Formless Track Club Mixes’ enter our discovery universe, bringing once again Sunim’s heavenly words to our ears. The background though is rather different. We are in commercial territories. Balanced over techno and house music, the EP enlists a series of talented producers and delivers greatly, potentially helping to share Sunim’s crucial Zen message with a wider audience.
