Gearing up for a striking and lush upcoming EP, ‘Trophy Wife in Training’, ARI LEE unveils another piece of the puzzle, a slice of evocative and meaningful alt-pop that’s perhaps one of the most reflective and melancholic episodes in the aforementioned EP. Aptly titled ‘The One’, the song reflects on the utopic and idyllic idea of finding ‘the one’, contrasting such cinematic and literary concept with the realisation that strength and confidence must be found within ourselves.
ARI LEE embarks on a personal journey of reckoning, asking herself if ‘The One’ doesn’t actually exist, and that it might be time to move on. It’s surely a relatable theme, one that’s bound to connect to a wide audience out there. Built on powerful alt-pop euphoria, the single showcases once again LEE’s dynamic, cathartic vocals, a joy to listen to.
Delving deeper into the inspiration behind ‘The One’, the London-based songstress explains: “Growing up, I loved fairy tales. I always aspired to have that one true love, which led to losing myself in a lot of relationships. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realise that the idea of ‘The One’ may not exist. Maybe the person that I was looking to love me the whole time was myself, and that’s what this song is about.”
