Anniee Unveils Personal, Meaningful Single ‘Wearing Black’ Alongside Wider EP

A slice of dreamy and hypnotic synthwave goodness, ‘Wearing Black’ feels anthemic and evocative, the perfect example of what Anniee stands for. The American songstress has recently released an overarching EP, ‘Night School’, a personal, meaningful record that pays homage to a rather painful and vulnerable moment in the artist’s own life. Writing songs functioned as a sort of coping mechanism for Anniee, giving her a multitude of pieces written under the stars, during the night. Hence, ‘Night School’.

‘Wearing Black’ stands tall as a strong single, conveying all of the brooding yet tender goodness the wider record has to offer. In it, we are confronted with a retro-infused blend of synthwave and synth-pop, with kaleidoscopic and gloomy arpeggiators helping Anniee reach an emotional place that’s relatable and elegant. The balance between cinematic allure and kinetic charge is perfect, with ‘Wearing Black’ never resting on its laurels, instead keeping listeners engaged and mesmerised.

Delving deeper into the record, Anniee explains: “I’m releasing this EP, which features 5 synth-pop anthems that explore the night in all its pain and glory – the heartbreak of the night, the excitement of the night, the mystery of the night, the longing of the night, and ultimately the transforming power of the night.”
