Australian readers might recognise Anna Weatherup from a past TV appearance on The Voice, a pivotal moment that allowed her to connect with a like-minded national audience. Years have passed, yet the talented songstress has never lost her unmatched passion for the singing medium, often shifting from acoustic-driven folk-pop goodness to more comprehensive and uplifting country-leaning material. Recently, we have had the confirmation of that, with the Aussie creative unveiling an electrifying and instrumentally dense new album, ‘Delusional’. The record was unveiled first as a CD, Vinyl and Bandcamp exclusive, with a general digital release set to arrive on March 3rd; literally next week! We were lucky enough to hear a preview of what’s coming, although attentive listeners might have already caught the few singles that can be found on streaming services.
Rock-flavoured cuts such as ‘This Is It’ playfully break with her 2023 acoustic EP ‘Truth’, providing a side of Anna that feels more expansive and energetic, but also more contemporary. It’s a fitting choice for our complex, turbulent times, we’d dare say, also providing a loud and fierce platform from which Weatherup is able to reflect on her personal experience and the many lessons learned in life. ‘Delusional’ is a relatable album, one that speaks to each and everyone of us on an intimate level.
