Anie Delgado Explores Toxic Relationship in ‘down with you’

It’s been a rather productive year for Anie Delgado, and we are happy to be following the project so closely. Gearing up for an upcoming EP to be released in the summer – ‘hopeless’ – the talented American songstress has recently returned with a brand new single, another slice of soothing, introspective pop goodness all wrapped in gentle electronic tones. ‘down with you’ is all of that and more: championing Delgado’s high degree of vulnerability and authenticity, the record also delves deeper into haunting production and gloomy cinematic flair.

So far, it’s a triumph. Anie’s dynamic, evocative vocals are incredibly vivid and striking, commanding the listeners’ attention with charisma and melancholia. Often seen writing about relationships, grief and loss, the Los Angeles-based creative enjoys exploring the darkest corners of human nature, then framing it in relatable musical terms. In particular, ‘down with you’ shines a light on toxic relationships, and their often irresistible pull.

As Delgado explains: “It is about that toxic situationship that you would follow to the literal depths of hell if it meant spending just a little more time with them. It’s that person in your life who’s addictive and destructive.” Oscillating between melodic, expressive songwriting and complex, obscure production elements, ‘down with you’ does a good job of recreating such a decadent and high-octane lyrical concept.
