Gritty American hero Allan Jamisen is back again, this time with a rather less rock and more eclectic offering. Following up from ‘Rock & Roll American’, celebrated by Mesmerized as “an uplifting, bold rock production”, the Phoenix-based creative finds a worthy refuge in funk-flavoured and soul-lenient territories, a choice that seems to fit Jamisen perfectly. ‘All I Am is You’ showcases all the versatility Allan has to offer.
Not only: it also remind us of the gloomy and understated character of his vocals. Part jagged, part sultry, Jamisen’s vocal delivery is nuanced and controlled, yet firm and intense. ‘All I Am is You’ greatly benefits from such potent aural qualities. Drenched in electronic beats and nostalgic funk elements, the record takes the project into uncharted territories, evidence of Jamisen’s limitless artistry. Longtime collaborator John X Volaitis played a pivotal role in it.
Based in Los Angeles, Volaitis teamed up with Allan, lending his experience to the cause. Delving deeper into the lyricism behind the song, Jamisen explains: “The lyrics were re-written entirely, inspired by Los Angeles, and themes of transference, ego, and collectivist identity reflected back to us through every form of traditional and social media.”
