Albert Hertz Unveils Sophomore Single ‘Lucky Luke’

Marking Albert Hertz’s sophomore single, ‘Lucky Luke’ draws from the late 90s and the early 00s with keen indie melancholy and nuanced sonic elegance.

To the uninitiated, Albert Hertz might appear as a newcomer. In fact, the project debuted only back in February, with ‘String Life’ showcasing the project’s functional blend of 90s grittiness and laidback melodic contour. Yet, behind Hertz’s moniker lies a very talented human, a gifted musician who’s long been active in the Copenhagen music scene. As everyone knows by now, the Danish capital has enjoyed a tremendous wave of interesting and eclectic musical endeavours, and Albert himself was previously part of collaborative projects like Wheelie Xtender Group, alongside renowned artists such as ML Buch, Clarissa Connelly, Smerz, Molina and Tettix Hexer, among others.

This is just to say that Hertz boasts a pretty notable past, and most importantly, he holds a great deal of musical wisdom to his name. Given what we know about him, no wonder ‘Lucky Luke’ turned out so good. Marking the Danish creative’s sophomore effort, the track feels nostalgic and brooding, yet also elegant and even orchestral, in a sense. Next to the track’s prominent retro indie allure, the piece also features an enjoyable string component, making the listening experience truly relatable and gentle.

Albert’s vocals move with quiet confidence, a tad understated but also precise and purposeful. To the ears of a thirty-something, they are bound to evoke memories from the early 2000s… after all, ‘Lucky Luke’ would find its rightful place in The O.C. soundtrack. Delving deeper into the lyrical premise behind the song, Albert Hertz explains: “A meditation on projecting one’s shadow onto each other in a relationship. It’s light, playful and sincere in the way it portrays the fate of two lovers who keep turning one another into their own reflection.”
