More famously known for being a member of legendary British group The Only Ones, Alan Mair also drives a solo project. Drawing inspiration from what he knows best – aka fuzzy, 70s-flavoured rock’n’roll – the talented and experienced musician has recently released a gloomy, intense and anthemic effort, ‘Ghost Of You In Me’, an electrifying piece that thrives in its lyricial complexity, as much as it does in its nostalgic sonic profile.
Written, sung and produced by Alan himself, the track sees the London-based creative perform every instrument, apart from lead guitar, here provided by Zal Cleminson. As expected, ‘Ghost Of You In Me’ is drenched in Mair’s artistic history. He writes and performs what he knows, that being jagged, dark and roaring rock’n’roll. Yet, the new single also features a certain eclecticism, with frequent nods to new wave and electronica.
From a lyrical standpoint, the song dives into romantic separation and loss. As Mair explains: “When you are deeply in love with someone and they move away, or even pass away, some believe their spirit comes back to visit”. ‘Ghost Of You In Me’ also features an enigmatic music video, the perfect match for such a nuanced record.
