Alan Lauris Unveils Monumental Album ‘Break’

It took over 30 years for Alan Lauris to complete his album. A collection of eclectic and meaningful songs, the record stays true to the concept behind it. Exploring life’s many breaking points, ‘Break’ dances around such effervescent imagery with class and elegance, touching themes of loss, resilience and change through Lauris’ playful, exuberant character. The Dutch talent, often seen blending soothing piano tones with pungent electronica, has collaborated with several fellow lyricists, a constant feature in the album.

Considering all mentioned above, it is easy to understand why ‘Break’ feels so expansive and diverse. Simply, it’s a snapshot of existence, a series of introspective fragments of life lived, conserved forever within their musical livery. Oscillating between melancholia and hope, the record packs ten stunning pieces, all showcasing a certain amount of vintage flavourings. Take, for instance, ‘What Good Would That Do’, true 90s-esque ballad goodness.

‘The Pages Are Missing’ is instead a fitting example of an uplifting piece. Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Alan explains: “It’s all about big breaking points in life. The ending of a long-lasting relationship, breaking up, and finding your real purpose in life after a midlife crisis. The songs on the album can be reflections of different stages in the break process.”
