Alan Dreezer Returns with Heartfelt Gem ‘Apart’

The keen reader might remember British troubadour Alan Dreezer. Writing about previous effort ‘(Love Didn’t Hurt Me) It Was You’, we proudly declared it “an upbeat and lively little number”. We stand by our words; writing memorable and evocative gems is one of Dreezer’s signature moves, often topped up by a certain funky flair and groovy character. Now, Alan returns with another wonderful offering, ‘Apart’, a piece that continues Dreezer’s overarching mission towards his third album ‘Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes’.

It’s been give or take nine months since the previous single was released, yet ‘Apart’ doesn’t feel like a comeback, rather like a worthy follow-up. Shifting into a more elegant and luscious gear, the Eastbourne-based singer-songwriter finds comfort in understated, liminal vibes, with a tapestry of synthy atmospheres and orchestral strings helping the track reach its zenith. Perhaps quite dramatic, yet never tiring, ‘Apart’ delves with both hands into romantic territories, highlighting the heartbreaking, difficult times of a failing relationship.

“We are apart” – sings Dreezer with heartfelt flair. That’s perhaps a universal feeling these days; many of us seem to have lost our way, forgetting kindness and mutual love. Yet, nothing is lost. We’ll be fine as long as we keep making art, just like Alan. ‘Apart’ resonates tall and bold in a frail global landscape, fiercely driven by Dreezer’s chestnut-hued vocal tones.
