Aka PrimeTime Teams Up with Chloe Foy on Nostalgic Cut ‘Living with Ghosts’

We resonate deeply with ‘Living with Ghosts’. Not in its literal sense, but in its metaphorical charge, a message conveyed perfectly by Aka PrimeTime herself: “learning to live with the echoes of your past while trying to find your way forward.” It’s a rather crucial theme, and perhaps especially today, given the painful global events of the last few years. What does it mean to reinvent yourself? Leaving the past behind, yet never really moving on.. As if a ghost was following you.

Well, such a potent concept is fully fleshed out in ‘Living with Ghosts’, where Aka PrimeTime showcases her songwriting and compositional flair. A talented producer and guitarist with a longstanding experience behind her, the Brighton-based talent has, on this occasion, teamed up with vocalist Chloe Foy, the perfect match for such a haunting yet gentle offering. From a sonic standpoint, the single is surprisingly poised and wholesome, developing on a bed of organic indie-pop with a minimal amount of electronic polish. This guarantees the record a certain rawness and nostalgia.

Delving deeper into the song, Aka PrimeTime (known by day as Kelly Appleton) explains: “I wrote this song during a time when everything I’d worked for seemed to crumble overnight. After years of touring and living in the U.S., I suddenly found myself back in the UK, separated from my home, my instruments, and my sense of direction. ‘Living With Ghosts’ is about learning to live with the echoes of your past while trying to find your way forward.” While honouring the past, Aka PrimeTime has struck aural gold in the present – not a bad silver lining.
