Aircraft Return with Brooding, Hypnotic Piece ‘Idiot Love’

It’s good to know that Aircraft went viral on TikTok; it shows us that the popular Chinese app doesn’t always require catchy and cliché pop cuts. In the case of the Ukrainian group, their intense, part lo-fi and part dreamy aural character was enough to entice a global audience of like-minded listeners. We are part of such an audience, being captured by Aircraft’s latest effort, ‘Idiot Love’. Anticipating the band’s new album ‘Death is around the corner’, the single unfurls a listening experience that’s rather dark and vibrant.

To us, ‘Idiot Love’ sounds quite darkwave-lenient, holding a keen Eastern European flair; that said, references and inspirations can also be found in more notable places, such as an 80s-flavoured Depeche Mode-esque mood. There’s an industrial touch in it, with a noisy, gritty production built on simple drum machines and nostalgic synth textures. Currently based in Berlin, the project operates all over Europe, both as a band and in DJ settings.

Spearheaded by founder Daniel Merkulov, Aircraft have never looked better. The listening experience is somber, yet electrifying and niche. It’s music for cool people, music for anyone willing to go off the beaten path. Give it a chance.
