Toronto-based alchemist accntnt is rather adamant about his need for artistic expression. “I exist, I make sounds” – is the tagline on his Instagram bio. It works for us, it’s certainly a noble endeavour. ‘bedhaus’ is the perfect example of that: a deep, liminal and hazy descent into leftfield electronica, the track marks our point of entry into the Canadian creative, allowing us to get familiar with the project’s eclectic and cathartic sonic imprint.
Known by day as Kyle Gottschalk, accntnt is a curious DJ and a gifted producer. Inspired by the likes of Madlib, Panda Bear, Cocteau Twins, Nicolas Jaar and Carl Craig, accntnt prefers not to be closed into a genre box, instead exploring electronic and analogue sources with a multitude of inspirations and references. Be it shoegaze, braniac IDM or niche hip-hop, everything plays a vital role in making the Canadian project one of the freshest discoveries we have heard in a while. Not to mention, he’s in Mount Mural, too.
