Every time someone reconnects with their artistic flair, we are happy. The world would be a better place if more people were making art. In the case of Australian creative A Wolf Like Me, life naturally took him back to his long-lost passion for songwriting and guitar-playing, sparking a journey of self-discovery and introspection that now finds its way onto the project’s debut single, ‘4:49’. Known by day as Aaron Reiter, A Wolf Like Me spent a whopping two decades away from his instrument.
Now based in Perth, Reiter is able to return to the music-making process with maturity and a great deal of experience he’s willing to share. Championing a deeply DIY ethos, he’s also taking care of production and recording, further showcasing his hidden talents. ‘4:49’ embarks on a fuzzy sonic adventure, exploring the common ground between indie and alt-rock. The result is a relatable, hard-hitting piece, one that feels nostalgic and familiar, yet fresh and contemporary.
Of course, we can sense traces of 90s grunge euphoria – something Reiter likely grew up with – yet, ‘4:49’ doesn’t overly dwell on the past, instead embracing a bold path forward. Delving deeper into his comeback to music, A Wolf Like Me explains: “The time away wasn’t wasted, and everything I’ve lived through now finds its way into the songs.” Overall, ‘4:49’ is a record worth listening to, and we look forward to learn more about the project in the future.
