We are rather familiar with _SHOE’s eclectic and boundary-pushing artistic output. Featuring ‘My Curse’ earlier this year, we proudly declared it “effectively pairing retro-pop with distorted guitar and veiled metal elements. It’s all pretty intense”. Since then, the Italian producer and visionary has been hard at work, as ‘Lace Entanglement’ eloquently showcases. In it, the project seems to take a step back from rock-flavoured guitars, delving heavily into synthwave elements and nostalgic sound designs.
In fact, ‘Lace Entanglement’ is pure synthwave with a touch of darkwave thrown in for good measure. _SHOE’s longstanding collaborator Stefano Francescato lends his evocative, powerful vocals to the track, effectively transforming an instrumental piece into a lyrically driven slice of futuristic storytelling. The melodies are quite cinematic, and overall, there’s a heightened sense of poignancy and emotional charge in it, coupled with a certain urgency as well.
Taken from an upcoming album, ‘Lace Entanglement’ is part of a bigger project with a specific storyline. As _SHOE explains: “The track is a first glimpse of the soundtrack of the video series that will be published beginning of next year. The track speaks of _SHOE, the main character, and his feelings of being trapped and wounded in a digital prison.”
