If you are looking for mesmerising electro-pop with a heightened cathartic allure, ‘you.Love’ is bound to particularly resonate with you. Built on indie-coded electronica with a nuanced experimental sheen, the track marks the latest effort from American producer and visionary Co.LeGa, as he follows up on May’s ‘Digitally Modified’. As we dive into the project, we are rather impressed by its malleable production flair and the timeless, synth-powered chaos that emerges from it.
Tinged with mysterious male vocals and blissful female vocals, ‘you.Love’ manages to entertain both the gritty and the luscious, an aural dualism that’s a joy to listen to. Kinetic and nostalgic drums remind us of a young Fatboy Slim and a CHVRCHES in their prime, at least for its funk and indie-oriented flavourings. Of course, the harmonic content is much more leftfield and ambient-coded, truly sharing an otherworldly aural embrace with anyone keen to stick around. As we are!
Compared to some of Co.LeGa’s earlier work, such as last year’s EP ‘NOBODY GOES TO HEAVEN’, ‘you.Love’ ventures into a more dance-filled path, effectively striking a working compromise between ethereal electronica and a poppier outlook. The result is an eclectic, malleable record that will likely resonate with a wide audience, standing right at the intersection of the commercial and the alternative.
