Discover Rohini Rege and Her Eclectic, Poignant Artistry in ‘Rock Bottom’

We appreciate how empowering and positive the lyrical message is… Once again, Rohini Rege showcases herself as a keen, observant scholar of the human experience.

It’s been a pivotal year for Rohini Rege. Returning to the global landscape after a two-year hiatus, the talented Austin-based songstress has so far unveiled three like-minded singles built on intimate folk textures with a world music twist. ‘Rock Bottom’ is the latest of the bunch, an offering that gets the project closer to Rege’s upcoming album, ‘Yours, and you can have mine’.

‘Rock Bottom’ is a rather interesting effort, especially when it comes to the cross-cultural aural fusion carried by its production. Drawing from her South Asian roots as well as Western acoustic folk references, the track features a Solkattu loop in the chorus, giving the overall piece a distinct Indian flavouring. Rohini’s vocals are a joy to listen to, extremely malleable and evocative, here delivered with charismatic elegance and a hidden sense of poignancy.

Delving deeper into the lyrical ethos that propels the record, Rege explains: “I wanted to create something that felt grounded yet unstoppable. The song explores how hitting rock bottom isn’t the end of the story. It’s the solid ground you use to push off and build upward.” We appreciate how empowering and positive this message is, and we are confident it will connect with a wide audience out there. Once again, Rohini Rege showcases herself as a keen, observant scholar of the human experience.
