Drew Davies Returns with Uplifting Cut ‘Running’

Compared to its predecessor, ‘Running’ feels decisively less gloomy and haunting, instead veering towards uplifting, kinetic territories.

The keen reader might remember Drew Davies from a feature we published earlier this year, praising ‘La Revanche’ as “a brooding, cinematic sound, one that’s steeped in guitar-coded energy and anthemic allure.” Well, that certainly wasn’t a one-off, with the British troubadour having recently returned with another impressive effort, ‘Running’, a single that further advances the project’s triumphant comeback.

Compared to its predecessor, ‘Running’ feels decisively less gloomy and haunting, instead veering towards uplifting, kinetic territories. Dark guitars and a melancholic mood have left the room, here replaced by funk-inspired riffs and an electrifying groove. Davies’ malleable vocals adapt to the track perfectly, showcasing their anthemic flair and bold resolve. Notably, the track also features a rather nostalgic guitar solo, something that we are surprisingly eager for.

Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the single, Davies explains: “Running was written about moments that make you feel like you’re stuck in a loop. Whether that’s constantly running down a dream to the detriment of other areas of your life or repeating the same mistakes again and again. I suppose it’s me holding up a mirror to myself, a reminder that if you keep running in the same direction, you might end up back where you started.”
