Taken from Captains Of Entropy‘s latest EP ‘Beatrice Comes Home’, ‘Rosetta’ marks the record’s lead single, an aural manifesto of what the West Los Angeles trio stands for. Navigating a wide array of influences, Mike Kanon, Reilly Wareham, and Jason Young provide a very convincing sonic formula, a formula that sounds much bigger and more expansive than what one would expect from a simple trio.
Built on funk-soul goodness, ‘Rosetta’ is a true standout, a piece that conquers the listener slowly but with confidence, gradually introducing a bolder rhythmic and harmonic allure. Electronic overdubs help the piece reach more eclectic territories, a feature that we appreciate a lot. Given the track’s instrumental nature, the accompanying music video becomes rather crucial, a puzzling and otherworldly visual rendition of the kinetic energy that emerges from the song.
Delving deeper into the complex and imaginative music video, director Matthew Mourgides explains: “The music immediately gave me this feeling of repetition and escape, of being trapped in the rhythms of everyday life while dreaming of something bigger. I wanted the three band members to almost feel like fragments of the same person, moving through this endless routine, until the world they’ve been dreaming about starts breaking through and eventually becomes their reality.”
