LOB Debut with Observant Gem ‘Rosarot Donkelschwarz’

We feel as though LOB shine a light on one of the most important issues of our times, that being the incredibly strong ideological divide that’s slowly eroding people’s ability to communicate with each other.

This might be the first time we feature a record sung in Swiss German. Yet, it’s worth it, with ‘Rosarot Donkelschwarz’ pairing reflective, hard-hitting lyrics with expansive production. The track marks LOB’s debut effort, a piece that was originally released earlier this summer through the pair’s own label Middle of Switzerland. LOB are Swiss creatives Liliane Bürli and Bujar Berisha.

Built over a spacious alt-pop arrangement, the single also benefits from a certain psychedelic character, as well as a keen minimalism. An icy drum groove and a sparse bassline perfectly complement Bürli’s controlled, honest vocals. From a lyrical standpoint, ‘Rosarot Donkelschwarz’ showcases LOB’s acute, observant songwriting character, as the two Swiss talents take a hard look at the way humans are often erased in favour of their idea, truly taking out their nuance and their complexity from the equation.

Delving deeper into the song’s nuanced, meaningful ethos, we are told: “The song begins with a distinction that is easy to lose. A person is more than the ideas they hold. Once that distinction disappears, it becomes easier to divide the world into good and bad, and harder to see one another.” We feel as though LOB shine a light on one of the most important issues of our times, that being the incredibly strong ideological divide that’s slowly eroding people’s ability to communicate with each other.
