The Parachute Testers Commit to Greatness in ‘Halfway to Everywhere’

What unfolded upon listening to ‘Halfway to Everywhere’ was a deeply cathartic and eclectic sonic panorama, a cross-genre hypnotic blur capable of embracing tender intimacy as well as sharp resolve.

We stepped into The Parachute Testers‘ artistic universe expecting the group to be another indie project. We couldn’t be more wrong; in fact, we did totally have the wrong impression of them. What unfolded upon listening to ‘Halfway to Everywhere’ was a deeply cathartic and eclectic sonic panorama, a cross-genre hypnotic blur capable of embracing tender intimacy and crepuscular atmospheres, as well as fuzzy guitar tones and sharp resolve.

Who are The Parachute Testers? Well, they are not so much a band, but rather a collective, a series of musicians from Wexford and Leeds that have seemingly struck sonic gold. We have no doubt that such a wide collaborative ethos might have given birth to some absolute jewels… In that regard, the album starts with its title track in rock-leaning fashion, orienting towards a hybrid sound that’s as evocative as it is electrifying and solid.

‘A Sight For Sore Eyes’ is when things get interesting, and it might actually be our favourite episode on the album. It’s here that we can appreciate The Parachute Testers’ alternative side, as quaint drum machines, acoustic guitars and cinematic soundscapes build a luscious aural experience. Elsewhere, ‘The World’s Worst Acrobat’ channels an elegant string section and an absolutely blissful mood. To reiterate the album’s diversity, we must also mention ‘Black Dog Runs Wild’, a slice of alt-rock chaos that comes out of nowhere. But it’s there!

The Parachute Testers are halfway to everywhere… do you get it now? 🙂
