Whenever you think about Halloween and a suitable spooky soundtrack, funk is probably not what’s primarily envisioned. Yet, Suzy’s Field do the unthinkable, crafting a nostalgic funk piece packed with tension, sensual allure and kinetic resolve. Looking at their Spotify catalogue, ‘Where Do You Go’ appears to be the project’s first release in more than a decade, following up on the 2014 album ‘Blossom’. Yet, we are sure that the Irish musicians have been very active throughout the years.

Recorded at Migration Studios, in Gloucestershire, ‘Where Do You Go’ feels electrifying and timeless, with sharp, groovy guitars standing tall alongside a dance-inducing drum groove and malleable, haunting melodies. The group’s lead vocals are delivered with charisma and confidence, well counterbalanced by a playful horn section and some retro-style hits. Namely inspired by the likes of Michael McDonald and Nile Rodgers, ‘Where Do You Go’ represents a powerful comeback for the Cork-based outfit.

Delving deeper into the record, Suzy’s Field explain: “Throwback spooky funk that has a modern twist… 70s-inspired Halloween funk!” We appreciate such a peculiar, quirky ethos, a sign that despite being active for the better part of three decades, the talented project still enjoys a great deal of creativity. Curiously, we are told that the three O’Keeffe brothers in Suzy’s Field are the younger brothers of acclaimed actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
