An innovator, you say? Could Alexander Loftus be one? We think he might be! Released just under a year ago, ‘Audio Crack’ is some of Loftus’ best work to date, and it functions as an artistic manifesto of sorts, a way to introduce the project’s peculiar hip-hop allure and its observant, hard-hitting rapping.
We are big fans of the record’s production. It’s quite lo-fi, in terms of sonic paste, rooted in old-school hip-hop but also quite saturated and shrouded in liminal textures. Alexander Loftus’ vocals steal the spotlight, being delivered with bold resolve and a fuzzy, distorted tone. It’s a feature that makes the whole EP incredibly alternative and fresh, and to be honest, we love the sound behind ‘Audio Crack’; it’s a formula that works very well, part nostalgic and part contemporary.
Delving deeper into the record’s creative outlook, Loftus explains: “I wanted to innovate a new sound and new type of subgenre of hip-hop, as a response to real-life struggles. The rap game has become faker and faker over the years, and I wanted to create something which would be real, and elevate the culture”. We appreciate such an honest and meaningful purpose, something that’s certainly refreshing in today’s music industry.
