Set to be released on Friday 23rd October (tomorrow), ‘Breathe’ marks the latest effort by shape-shifting creative Third Girl From The Left. Constantly oscillating between genres and moods, the talented creative has now teamed up with multi-instrumentalist and collaborator Paul Caddick for what’s going to be her tenth release to date. In it, we discover yet another side of TGFTL, one wrapped in secrecy and cinematic elegance.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘Breathe’ widens the project’s aural palette once again, embracing an atmospheric trip-hop outlook that shifts from haunting ambient tones to the final kinetic section, packed with a gritty groove and chaotic resolve. Third Girl From The Left’s vocals are a joy to listen to, as always, here moving with solemn character and an intense hypnotic charge. The British songstress crafts material that’s malleable and reflective, crepuscular gems that invite moments of introspection and escapism.
Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the song, Third Girl From The Left explains: “True story — most of the melody and lyrics came to me as I was riding pillion on the back of a motorbike through the Devon countryside and I had to keep singing it over and over to myself so I didn’t lose it. As soon as we’d stopped, I had to sing it into my phone.”
For anyone keen, TGFTL is gearing up for a couple of intimate live shows in November. Saturday 7th November at The Millhouse, Ilminster, and Sunday 8th November at The Three Horseshoes, Bradford on Avon.
