Hailing from Austin, The Schisms are not your average rock band; in fact, one would usually find them at the intersection of psychedelia and moody goth matter. It’s a formula that has now bloomed into ‘All The Good Things’, the group’s latest single. Taken from their upcoming EP ‘Tejas’, the piece was written by singer and guitarist Carson Barker. Goose McCollum on bass, keys and vocals, and Michael Stockton on drums and vocals complete the talented line-up.
We appreciate The Schisms’ pompous, epic psych-goth imprint. As showcased in ‘All The Good Things’, the American band oscillates between lyrical nostalgia and anthemic instrumental moments, embracing the sort of gloomy cinematic resolve that’s a joy to listen to. That said, verses are often layered on an acoustic guitar, marking the overarching tension between songwriting introspection and wider full band arrangements. The record’s thematic outlook embraces the idea of resilience and empowerment, urging the listeners not to give up.
Delving deeper into the song, head honcho Carson Barker explains: “The core of this song came to me all at once. I suppose it’s a plea to people who are struggling with the current times to not give up. Stuart and I ripped this song to pieces and rebuilt it over and over again, so it came out bruised and beaten, but with its head up high. That really resonates with the theme.”
