As we approach Prince Jelleh‘s artistic complexity, we are instantly mesmerised by their evocative allure and imaginative arrangements. ‘First Fall’ is the record we are presenting to you today, a cathartic single taken from the group’s upcoming EP ‘Not the Dawn’, expected on November 20th. Hailing from Switzerland, Prince Jelleh sees Lukas Fuchs at its helm.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘First Fall’ feels rather eclectic and unconventional. Part indie, part folk, the piece waves an introspective aural goo that thrives on icy, fuzzy guitars and organic drums, with a hazy layer of electronic elements playing a pivotal part in the record’s overall freshness. We appreciate how they are able to sound so original and unique, a quality that’s certainly aided by long-time collaborator Tillmann Ostendarp, here on production duties.
Delving deeper into the meaningful creative ethos that propels the track, we are told: “a quiet, honest song about the days after a breakup, when the feeling is almost too much to bear.” You won’t find epic dramas in here, or the sort of poignant melodism that freezes you in a nostalgic embrace. Instead, Prince Jelleh go down the elegant route, as if they were fully accepting any romantic pains, observing the melancholy flow through them with sombre resolve.
