In the case of Jessie Schat, Chris Schat and Derek Mehl, collectively known as Echo the Light, such a reason lies in their faith in god, an element that tinges their artistic journey with profound meaning and reflective allure. ‘Send Me’ marks their latest single, a track filled with religious introspection and enlightened lyricism.
In classic Worship fashion, ‘Send Me’ oozes with epic melodies and cinematic arrangement, making full use of a wide dynamic range. Quiet, emotional verses function as a counterpoint to louder, hymn-like choruses, an organic formula that still contains a fair amount of distorted guitars and rock-like energy. That said, Jesse’s malleable vocals crown the record with their hypnotic cadence and raw elegance. It’s Worship music with a heightened Americana factor, quite different from the mainstream scene.
While the religious theming behind the song might not appeal to everyone, the selfless, lovable purpose that propels the track deserves recognition. Songwriter Jesse, author of ‘Send Me’, explains: “Not everyone is called to be a missionary, but everyone is called to ‘missions’ or witnessing to the lost. We should not know only saved people. This song came about during a time of worship when I was pouring my heart out to God. The bridge was a surprise to me, because He was reminding me who I am in Him-with these powers, abilities and gifts (the same as everyone is entitled to) to not be idle but to go with purpose: to be ‘sent’.”
