As we delve into ‘Candyman’, it’s incredibly easy to get lost in the single’s warm melancholia and quaint aural nostalgia. Boasting a gritty, laidback character, the piece embarks into the depths of guitar-coded Americana with a certain contemporary allure, eventually ending up in a rather eclectic place, with rock and indie influences popping up here and there. The mood is gloomy yet not heavy… the sort of piece that raises the intensity and urgency with cinematic flair, yet also keeps it casual and playful.
Behind such a strong offering, we find Los Angeles-based outfit Road Movie. ‘Candyman’ kickstarts a new creative phase for the band, as they move towards a cohesive and substantial album release in the early part of 2027. Recorded between Zion National Park in Utah and the group’s home studio in Carpinteria, CA, the forthcoming record moves the band into darker and more brooding territories, a feature that we are quite eager about.
Reiterating the excitement for the new release and the band’s upcoming album, lead guitarist Nathan Goldstein explains: “This is one of my favourite songs of recent years. We can’t wait for the audience to grab hold of it and make it their own. You never really know what you have made until people start to listen to it.” We are confident the overall reception towards ‘Candyman’ will be really positive. At least, that’s been our impression with the single!
