Zak Coghlan Drops Charismatic New Single ‘Jump The Gun’

Discover Coghlan’s ‘Jump The Gun’, a record that thrives on the project’s charismatic indie energy, but that finds a more evocative path forward.

The keen reader will gladly remember Zak Coghlan from a feature we published earlier this year, praising ‘Lead Balloon’ as “electrifying and evocative guitar-coded matter… assuming a more triumphant, uplifting character”. We stand by our words, and in fact, such a statement could be partly adapted to Coghlan’s latest effort, ‘Jump The Gun’, a record that still thrives on the project’s charismatic indie energy, but that finds a slightly more evocative and introspective path forward. It’s the continuation of a personal journey for Zak, as he unveils a different side of his brooding, charismatic artistry.

Compared to its predecessor, ‘Jump The Gun’ moves with restraint and order, although the track’s main chorus appears to still be exploding into epic soundtrack vibes. Whichever way you look at it, it must be said that Coghlan is really good at writing such vibrant records; the sort of emotional and empowering material that one would listen to on a bus ride after school, eager to achieve something meaningful in life.

The single arrives at a rather crucial time for Coghlan, following up on a successful show in Manchester and an upcoming London performance. Things are happening! Delving deeper into ‘Jump The Gun’, Coghlan explains: “A heavier, reworked version of a song I originally released with my former band Sunburn, now rebuilt as part of my solo project. After performing it live hundreds of times, the track has evolved into something sharper, louder, and far more fully realised… capturing the way it was always meant to sound.”
