It’s been just over a year since Brian Noyes’ 2025 album ‘Seelie Court’ was released, a hypnotic, psychedelic-coded record that gave listeners a pretty good understanding of what the project stands for. Noyes’ artistry is as expansive as it is elegant, blending baroque pop and psychedelic influences steeped in dreamy atmosphere and cinematic allure; the resulting aural experience feels tender and heartwarming, if ever slightly otherworldly. It’s like a fever-dream of sorts, especially thanks to Brian’s wholesome and cathartic vocals.
After releasing the aforementioned record, the Seattle-based creative has not been resting on his laurels, instead working hard on a worthy follow-up. ‘Tarot’ is the perfect evidence of that, a single that opens the floodgates to Noyes’ upcoming third album, ‘The Ringing World’, expected on August 28. There’s a lot we could praise the track for, but we would like to first point out its gentle, acoustic-driven character, a quality that takes listeners by the hand with a certain nostalgic flair.
In that sense, ‘Tarot’ feels almost timeless, with its crispy guitar arpeggios and mellotron-like soundscapes unfolding a malleable, melodic production, the perfect match for Noyes’ evocative songwriting and welcoming vocal delivery. It’s no wonder his music is so good: Brian has been around for a while now, boasting militance in psych pop group Tomten and touring keyboardist duties for San Francisco band Papercuts.
