Ashleigh Summer Unveils Laidback Album ‘Turtle In The Sun’

With ‘Turtle In The Sun’, Canadian songstress Ashleigh Summer invites us all to slow down and take life with a more laidback approach. It’s an ethos we can certainly stand behind.

From time to time, it’s good to receive a bright and uplifting record, an album that doesn’t carry an overly intricate lyrical theming and doesn’t push any particular boundary, instead focusing on an overall feel-good character and playful flair. ‘Turtle In The Sun’ is exactly that, an acoustic, pop-leaning jewel that takes a cue from the likes of Jason Mraz and Ingrid Michaelson, putting ukulele and banjo back in the limelight. Behind it all, we find Vancouver-based songstress Ashleigh Summer

Summer’s vocals are perfect for the evocative and empowering songs found in ‘Turtle in The Sun’. Her malleable and melodic tone entice listeners from the first note, building a positive and relatable aural universe that invites joy and happiness. Packed with ten like-minded pieces, the record embodies the lyrical ethos that propels Summer’s songwriting, here focused on taking it easy in an otherwise chaotic and intricate world.

Delving deeper into the “turtle-philosophy” that inspired the album, Summer explains: “a warm, acoustic folk-pop album about slowing down in a world that constantly asks us to speed up.” Staying true to such a meaningful and urgent message, Ashleigh struck creative gold on a working farm, teaming up with longtime collaborator and producer Brian Wiebe. The laidback natural setting helped ‘Turtle in the Sun’ reach its most authentic and fuller potential.
