‘Frank’ will resonate with a lot of thirty-something out there, an audience conquered by the record’s nostalgic indie quality. Drawing from early ‘2000 indie and alt influences, the track unfolds as an uplifting and slick guitar-powered jewel, moving between evocative restraint and quaint euphoria at a moment’s notice. There’s a certain intensity and urgency in it, a feeling that is kept up throughout the whole single. Hints of Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse peek their heads here and there…
Behind such a powerful offering, we find Swedish alchemist They Owe Us, operating out of Gothenburg and further advancing his long, successful career, A journey that was often experienced behind the scenes and alongside notable artists. Kristoffer Ragnstam is the human behind the project, on this occasion teaming up with collaborators Klabbe Hörngren and Rick Hellgren for an upcoming full-length album, ‘Katzengold’.
Delving deeper into the creative approach to ‘Frank’ and ‘Katzengold’, Ragnstam explains: “When we recorded, it was all about trust. Between Klabbe, Rick and me. We worked fast, almost instinctively. Sometimes it was just a look across the room, and we all knew: that’s the take. For me, it’s been a refreshing way of working. Fewer people, quicker decisions, and just accepting the flaws that come with it… and maybe even keeping them.”
