We have always enjoyed discovering artist that develop their own musical formula, creatives not afraid to delve into the unconventional and the leftfield. There’s something extremely empowering about making peculiar, original art. Something cathartic, even. Charmelyx is the perfect example of that: hailing from Poland, the talented songstress and overall visionary champions a deeply ethereal alt-pop ethos wrapped in experimental production and intricate 3D visuals. ‘Edenism’ is her debut single, a dreamy and hypnotic cut developed with fellow artist Evisaveme.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘Edenism’ mostly evolves on a beatless canvas, with an intense carpet of synths and reverbs offering a passionate counterpoint to Charmelyx’s evocative, monumental vocals, here unfolding as the voice of an otherworldly goddess. The track itself is only part of the story, as the record is actually more of a comprehensive audio-visual body of work. The accompanying video features a simulated Eden slowly revealing its artificial and unstable nature.
Delving deeper into the complex creative ethos that propels the single, Charmelyx explains: “The story behind ‘Edenism’ comes from a feeling that the world has become very fragile. Since 2020, many things have changed on both a personal and global level. New technologies, including artificial intelligence, have started to reshape everyday life in ways that can feel both helpful and frightening. In that context, human life, emotion, and even the idea of the soul can sometimes feel devalued or unstable.”
