Guitar players rejoice! There’s a new album that you can play along to, and it sounds great. ‘Climax’ is exactly that, a collection of twelve electrifying and instrumental offerings (including some alternate versions) all focused on massive guitar riffs and virtuoso soloing. Do not expect an overly technical release: the album does a good job of keeping the overall musical thread relatable and melodic. Decadent Heroes is the talented human behind the record.
Known as Luigi Chiappini by day, the Italian guitarist and composer has teamed up with a phenomenal lineup of notable musicians, including Dennis Holt, Pino Saracini, Rich Gray, Fausto Berardo, Marcin Palider, Darrell Nutt, and Francesco Coppola Bove, all appearing as session musicians. Built on rock and blues influences and offering some great stripped-back moments (‘Before The Hype’ comes to mind), ‘Climax’ is an eclectic, evocative album, one that’s worth your time and attention.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the record, Chiappini explains: “It is my most complete and personal work to date. What makes it stand out is the balance between raw power and emotional depth. While it contains heavy, riff-driven moments and soaring guitar leads, it also breathes, moving naturally between high-energy rock, atmospheric passages, and more introspective sections. It’s not just another instrumental guitar album; it feels like a real journey with dynamics, contrast, and storytelling.”
