Synthwave lovers rejoice! There’s a new player in town. Well, in fact, he’s been in town for the past few years, getting better and better release after release. Hailing from Bucharest, Romania, SLAPPER champions a nostalgic, retro-coded take on electro-pop and 80s influences, delivering an hypnotic and crepuscular synthwave style that’s a joy to listen to, incredibly introspective and night-driven. ‘We Kept The Night’ is the perfect evidence of that, a track that would provide the perfect soundtrack for a nighttime drive.
It’s an image that might sound cliché to some, yet one that we are never tired of. Synthwave is still alive and well, and no one can prove otherwise! ‘We Kept The Night’ arrives off the back of ‘The Break of Day’, a piece that embraced a more club-oriented ethos, still remaining firmly in vintage territories. SLAPPER is not running out of ideas anytime soon, perhaps thanks to his no-frills, minimalist sonic style.
Delving deeper into the single, the Romanian creative explains: “The idea behind the track was simple, some nights don’t end. They stay with you, long after they’re gone.” Originally formed in the 90s, SLAPPER is now propelled by one of its founding members, Claudiu-Gabriel Tache, a gifted DJ and producer with a keen ear for luscious music.
