Lucian Lacewing Unveils Celestial Drone ‘Land of Enchantment’

‘Land of Enchantment’ is not your average record. Born out of Lucian Lacewing’s visionary ethos, the piece is a slice of cathartic escapism, a celestial drone that’s rewarding and hypnotic.

Described to us as “an otherworldly cacophony”, ‘Land of Enchantment’ is certainly a peculiar, leftfield piece, the sort of boundary-pushing material that often stems from visionary artistry. Composed by Bristol-based creative Lucian Lacewing, the track revolves around mangled and sampled vocals, rearranged by Lacewing into a cinematic, ethereal soundscape, one that feels heavenly and angelic, but also enigmatic and intense. It’s quite cathartic too: a record that aids escapism.

Contributing to ‘Land of Enchantment’, we find Qualia Cascade, Annette Buckley, Tanya Goknel, Julie Baker, Claire Few, Laura Peglar, Sarah Joy Pearson, and Eleanor Murphy. Their vocals have been extracted from old recordings on Lacewing’s hard drive, then rearranged into unrecognisable aural matter. We’d like to praise Lucian’s inventive flair, as he clearly knows how to transform an abstract drone piece into an authentic work of art.

Asked whether the record carries a particular meaning, Lacewing replies: “Not really. The song has no lyrics, and I am perhaps too much of an escapist anyway. More than anything else, the song is the result of experimentation. I had little idea of how it would end up sounding when I began. If I have a philosophy, it is always to seek uniqueness.” That’s an ethos we can agree with: music serves its own purpose, and sometimes, lyrics are not needed. It’s all about evoking a mood, providing a fragment of escapism in a complex and gloomy world.
