The keen reader might remember reading about Fleanger about a year ago. At the time, we praised ‘Soul Logic’ and the Berlin-based DJ and producer as “fierce interpreters of modern EDM seen through an eclectic and expressive lens”, a statement that rings true even today. ‘Down’ is the perfect evidence of that. Marking Fleanger’s latest EP, the record dives once again into melodic territories, constantly oscillating between evocative deep house and progressive territories. Hints of 90s trance appear through the aural smoke, once in a while, and it’s clear that the Tel Aviv-born creative has been enjoying a wide range of influences.
Citing Lane 8, Ben Böhmer, and Yotto as some of his contemporary heroes, Fleanger showcase himself as perfectly in tune with the modern EDM landscape. Embracing the scene’s overall shift towards hypnotic grooves and reflective undertones, ‘Down’ offers its title track both in an original version and a remix by Marcos Calegari, alongside a second original offering, ‘Body Language’. Written and produced by Fleanger himself, the EP marks another impressive creative milestone for the rising DJ, and we are confident he’ll be able to grow a bigger and bigger audience this year.
Delving deeper into the EP, Fleanger explains: “The story behind DOWN comes from a period of introspection and emotional contrast. The idea of ‘going down’ is not only about mood, but about the process of diving inward; slowing down, reflecting, and reconnecting with the deeper layers of emotion that often get lost in everyday noise. During the time this release was written, I found myself thinking a lot about the balance between movement and stillness, between the energy of the outside world and the quieter moments where creativity actually takes shape.”
